Heyyy SuperTeachers,
Ever watch a student stare at a question, frozen and unsure of how to start—even though you know they’ve learned the skill before?
It’s not that they don’t know how to answer it—it’s that they don’t know how to think about it.
Enter: Think-Alouds.
Here’s how to do it:
Project a test-like question on the board.
Talk through it out loud.
Say things like:
“First, I’ll underline the key words.”
“Now, let’s eliminate the answers that don’t make sense.”
“This word signals contrast—so I know the answer must have the opposite meaning.”
Have students practice in pairs. One does the Think-Aloud, the other solves. Then switch.
Why Think-Alouds work:
It makes invisible-thinking visible. Students hear the logic behind solving problems.
It gives students a process, not just an answer.
It boosts test confidence—because they’re practicing problem-solving, not memorization.

Go ahead, give it a try and tell us what happens!
