Welcome to Dr. O's Guide to "Always Be": A Sassy Series for Educators

Episode One: Always Be Circulating

Hey SuperTeachers, lace up those sneakers—it's time to get your steps in!

You're probably fueling your day with endless cups of coffee, barely touching a glass of water. So, why not make those harsh working conditions work in your favor? Burn calories and keep your scholars on task by mastering the art of circulating.

Stepping out of your comfort zone—or what I like to call, your "Triangle of Comfort" at the front of the classroom—sends a powerful message. It shows your students that you're there to engage, not just to lecture.

Why should you - Always Be Circulating?

Visibility: Move left, right, up, and down. Make it a necessity for students to track you from various points in the room.

Accessibility: Show your students that you're there to support them—both physically and figuratively. Whether it’s helping them understand the content, stay focused, or even changing seats to maximize learning, you're there for it all.

Accountability: By moving around, you keep students on their toes, minimizing distractions and boosting engagement.

Not convinced? Clip on a pedometer. Watching the steps add up can be surprisingly motivating. Plus, it's a great way to visually quantify your dedication and dynamic approach to teaching.

Pro-Tip: avoid talking to or making eye contact with your students when you are circulating. You're just getting your steps in. You are not there to answer any questions. You are ear-hustling and providing forward moving questions when absolutely necessary. Stick and Move SuperTeachers, don't let them drag you in.

Remember, Always Be Circulating!

See you in the next post, and don't forget—like, share, and drop a comment. Muchas gracias!
